THE CURRICULUM
The curriculum is based on much research to ensure maximum student retention and includes a thematic unit that extends the fire safety lessons throughout all content areas. Teachers can use it for lessons throughout the year.

THE PRESENTATION
Our most unique attribute is that we give the classes to no more than 30 children at a time. Scores of studies have proven that smaller groups of children learn better as well as retain information better than large classes .The presentation is 40 minutes long and is completely interactive with Freddie and the firefighter talking to every child and involving them to ensure maximum retention.
FOLLOW UP PROGRAM
The Fire Fellows offer a unique incentive program. The program is twofold: we incentivize children to continue their education throughout the year by offering them various games and toys if they complete the continued education program offered on our website. The second part is our Smoke Alarm initiative. At the end of every presentation, we inform the children of a program where we offer an incentive for every house that they identify that is missing a smoke alarm or has a non-working battery. By incentivizingthem, we turn the children into ambassadors of fire safety. The children are told that they must find at least one house that is missing a smoke alarm or has a non-working battery. Between their house and the houses of their friends, relatives and neighbors, one is sure to be missing a smoke alarm or have a non-working battery. This ambassador program will greatly increase the amount of active smoke alarms in our communities, thereby greatly reducing the risk of death or injury.
Working With Schools
We educate children on fire prevention and safety practices, who will serve as ambassadors carrying the fire prevention and safety message back to their parents. Some researchers believe that nearly two-thirds of all fires are preventable. A proactive approach of providing education, training and resources to the public would help protect high-risk populations of children, the elderly, and the disabled.
The Facts
Several studies have concluded that when working smoke alarms are present, the chance of dying from a fire is significantly lower- the death rate in homes are 45% lower when a smoke detector is present. However, approximately 33% of the homes in the Unites states are not adequately protected with smoke detectors. Even in homes with smoke detectors in place, there are still several problems that exist. First, the 12% of homes without any alarm have more than half the fires.
